Bang Bao Beach is the gateway for all diving trips around Chang Island and the rest of the marine park and where you will find most of the dive shops. There are other dive shops around the busier beach areas. All shops will offer you the opportunity to get Padi open water level certified. Courses are usually 4 intensive days so bare that in mind when planning your trip. For experienced divers, fun dives around many of the dive sites such as Hin Luk Bat, Hin Sam Sao, Hin Raap and Koh Rang are available also.
During the rainy season the visibility can get very poor so the best time to come and dive is between November and May. Some of the common fish you are likely to discover are, Batfish, Trigger Fish, Grouper, Blue Tipped Rays and Moray Eels. It’s not uncommon for turtles or Whale Sharks to be spotted at certain times of the year.
For the more daring diver there are Two wreck dives on the island. The Koh Chang wreck was sunk by the French during the battle of Trat in 1941. You will find this wreck at the islands southern tip and it sits at a depth of Fifteen metres in Salakphet bay. Alternatively following it’s crashing into a coral reef in 1996 on route to vietnam,you have the Pak One wreck. It wasn’t until 2004 that this wreck resurfaced.
Following the Thai Navy draining it of liquefied petroleum gases it let it sink between the waters of Koh Chang and Koh Samet for divers to enjoy. This wreck is by no means for the beginner sitting at 35 metres deep.
